Anthropos

Hello!

First and foremost I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Hannah and I am currently finishing up my undergraduate degree as an                 Anthropology major at Humboldt State University. My specific area of interest is Primatology and I hope to use the knowledge I have gained here at HSU to begin working with captive primates, focusing largely on enrichment in a zoo or sanctuary setting. I think it is of the utmost importance that these animals be given every opportunity to thrive in captivity, which is by and large not an ideal setting for such intelligent creatures. I have plans to focus my research on the use of music as a means of stress reduction and overall improvement of the quality of life among primates in zoos.

As you will undoubtedly notice, much of the work I will feature in this blog has little to do with Primatology specifically, and instead focuses on other areas within the overarching discipline of Anthropology— Archaeology is another area of interest for me, and the work reflects that. This is due in large part to the fact that Anthropology, perhaps more than most areas of study, is a holistic discipline. I found myself drawn to it because I could get into so many things at once.

I love to learn. I love school. I have loved every part of this experience. What is truly amazing is that in a time in my life when most of my peers (in other disciplines, anyway) are so unsettled about where their education is taking them and the opportunities that are waiting for them, I have a deep-seeded sense of calm about what lies in store for me. I have no doubts that what I have learned will see me through into a prosperous and fulfilling career. What the next step toward that career might be, I have no clue. But the end game’s the same.
